Warning: This is personal view (analysis) (to promote and support the Punjabi cinema) not the “professional critical review” of the film.
So at last after three days torture (as never waited to see any Punjabi film in theatre with excitement before) I managed to watch the first day first show of the “Mel Karade Rabba” (MKR) in Greater Union Cinema of the Melbourne and really enjoyed it.
In Punjabi community/culture most marriages as a rule set off through the fixed process or some traditional ceremonies like “Rok” “Shagan” and “mangani or Mangana”. When something goes wrong or any misunderstanding happens, this leads to the end of future relationship of husband wife and their families as well when mentioned ceremonies are done but the final destination marriage/wedding is not arrived yet, this situation is expressed in a successful and stylish way by the film director Navnait Singh.
The film’s main character Rajveer Gill (Jimmy Sher Gill) is a college student who cannot pass his exams from three years but successfully manages to get the top results. Rajveer also comes forward to participate in college fights with the other group of students in the same college. He also buys cups and trophies to make his mother believe proud of her son as she is so proud of her late husband an army officer.
Main actress Neeru Bajwa plays the role of Seerat “a decent Punjabi girl” and witnesses few moments of one fight and Rajveer holding hockey stick in his hand. Same time Rajveer goes through “first sight love” moment. Later on when his family tries to get his agreement for the marriage he denies first but agrees straight away when he comes to know that this is the same girl who witnessed his fight scene. So Rajveer and his family members goes to Girl’s house so the boy and girl can see each other for first time. Seerat is aware of Rajveer’s true nature so she tries to inform her father as she knows that what type of life partner should “not” be in her life but Rajveer handles the situation with the skill. Seerat continues to make unsuccessful efforts to broke this relationship to escape the marriage. On the other side Rajveer successfully wins the heart of Seerat’s other relatives when he visits Seerat’s grandmother in village. In this visit Seerat monitors the additional skills of Rajveer and stops her efforts to broke this relationship, now she agrees to see Rajveer her future husband.
